He nodded.

"Fair point. Just keep an eye out for things like that. I don't want the Lieutenant breathing down my neck, and I'm not just saying that because of that little morning breath problem of his."

He laughed as Steele brought up his physique.

"Just wait, we'll talk about that again in 20 years, kid."

Donald picks up one of the remaining sandwiches.

Steele grunted in acknowledgment as the older cop got his point. The girl most likely wasn't who they were looking for, probably nowhere near the suspect, but he wasn't stupid enough to not try to find out what else they knew at the station. There was still a lot to do to clear her of suspicion completely, but if he went and asked around for a bug specialist… Well, he was getting the feeling that he'd have to deal with her sooner rather than later. Maybe he'd be lucky and she wasn't the only one interested in local bugs…

Eating his rather greasy and sodium-filled dinner, Steele couldn't help but twitch at Anderson's quip about his own weight problems.
"Doubt you'll be around here to see that, old man," he retorted, not exactly sounding malicious, but it wasn't like he was smiling, either. Then again, did the cop ever really crack a smile? The answer was probably no. It was the kind of banter one could expect out of the two cops, however.

"One buck for every time I've heard that, and I wouldn't have to worry about my pension. 10 bucks for each time someone who isn't around by now has said that, and I wouldn't need that pension in the first place. I should make a jar for that."

Don chuckled and finished the sandwich off. He still had no idea what to make of the whole mess, but that#d come with time, provided they didn't wait too long and allowed the bodies to pile up...

Smithson

The coroner emerged once again from his dinner. "You know? I kind of feel it'd be my turn, saying something about whom of you I'm getting to see in the end? Except, it all depends on what kind of "interesting" end one could meet. Not everyone can compare to the one we've just seen... ".

While Steele probably should have lost his appetite by now, he was still clearing his plate during the times when he could fill his mouth with food instead of having to talk. Chewing another mouthful of sausages and potatoes, his steely gaze flicked towards the coroner. Of course Smithson could only be pulled from his meal when they started to talk about death…
"Don't get too excited and fantasize about my corpse while I'm still alive and kicking," the cop grumbled after swallowing his mouth mostly clean,
"Just focus on our dead guy. Figure you've already said everything interesting for now? Heard any other results from the guys at the station?"

Smithson

The coroner chuckled, apparently amused by the idea not so much of Steele's corpse, but of himself fantasizing about it. "Depends how you define 'interesting'. Are the shades of one's liver interesting enough for you? But yeah, I think I told you all relevant bits. Showed you the best ones, even". He lifted the bug sample once again, shook it under Steele's nose.

Steele just grunted, not seeming to be too interested in whatever else the coroner was able to give him. That kind of details about the corpse wouldn't do him much good – that was exactly why they had professionals to whom it meant something, after all. Steele leaned back away from the jar of bugs that Smithson was so infatuated with. Clearly the coroner had found the part he liked the most about this case…

"Right. Was planning on heading down the station later today. After this, probably," the cop nodded towards his half-finished plate,
"And see what else they've dug up. Like suspects. Might be able to start figuring the bugs out later, if things check out. You, Anderson?"

Steele glanced towards the older cop.

"Sounds about right. I guess I'll have to give the Lt. a heads up, but unless we can dig something up, we'll remain at the level of knowledge we just put together, I guess. Perhaps going to see some witnesses or so."

The usual routine, so to say, depending on what the guys back at the shop had unearthed by now. If they had and didn't just leave everything to them, that was...
